Speed dating questions: 80 that work in three minutes
Three minutes is about four questions each. Here are 80 that are quick to answer and tend to open a story, sorted for first rounds, for laughs, for values, and for making friends.

What makes a question work under a timer
A speed dating round runs three to five minutes. Take out the hello and the shuffle when the bell rings, and you have time for about four questions each. So every question has to earn its seat.
The ones that work share three things. They’re concrete: “What did you do last Saturday?” beats “What do you do for fun?” because there’s a real Saturday to describe. They’re answerable: nobody has to rank their whole life on the spot. And they open a story: the answer comes with a place, a person, or a small disaster to ask about next.
Then answer it yourself. A round where one person asks and the other answers is an interview. You don’t need all 80, either: pick three or four you’d enjoy answering, and drop the list the moment the conversation takes over.

Questions to skip
Fine topics, wrong for three minutes with a stranger.
“So, what do you do?”
It gets a job title and a full stop. Ask what’s keeping them busy these days.
“Why are you still single?”
It asks a stranger to defend their life, and there’s no good three-minute answer.
“What are you looking for?”
It turns a hello into a screening. Save it for a first date.
“Tell me about your ex.”
Whatever the answer is, the round is now about someone who isn’t at the table.
Anything about money
Income, rent, and debt need trust, and trust hasn’t had time to show up yet.
The rapid-fire checklist
“Kids? Religion? Politics?” in a row feels like a form. The values list above is a friendlier road.
Try it online: 5 questions with someone new
Our meet section works a lot like one speed dating round, minus the room and the bell. You’re introduced to one new person, and the two of you go through five light questions from Guess My Answer: pick your own answer, then guess theirs.
There’s no chat during the game. Afterward, each of you says privately whether you’d like to keep talking, and a chat opens only if you both do. If not, it simply ends.
A few honest notes. It isn’t a walk-in room: you sign in with a confirmed email, fill in a short profile, and have to be 18 or older. The section is new and access can be limited, so the meet page shows what’s open to you right now. And an introduction can take a while: it depends on who else is looking.
Common questions
- What questions should you ask at speed dating?
- Concrete ones that are easy to answer and lead somewhere: “What did you do last Saturday?”, “What’s the best thing you ate this week?”, “What’s keeping you busy these days?” Have three or four ready, and answer them yourself.
- What are some funny speed dating questions?
- Ones that are silly without putting anyone on the spot: “What’s your most controversial food opinion?”, “What would your entrance music be?”, “Which chore would you pay good money to never do again?”
- How many questions can you ask in 3 minutes?
- About four each, if you both answer. That’s roughly 40 seconds per question, follow-up included. A five-minute round fits six or so.
- What’s the difference between speed friending and speed dating?
- The format is the same: short timed rounds, then you move on. The goal is different. Speed friending is for finding people to do things with, so the questions lean toward interests, schedules, and how you like to hang out. Light dating questions work at both. Flirty ones don’t.
- What should you not ask at speed dating?
- Anything that needs trust or a long answer: exes, income, why someone is single, big life plans. Those can wait for a first date.
