Twenty pairs from everyday life. In each, pick what matters more to you. There are no wrong answers.

  • Words
  • Time together
  • Gifts
  • Help
  • Touch

How the quiz works

  1. Pick one of two

Each pair is two nice things from everyday life. Pick the one that matters more to you. There are no wrong answers, so don't overthink it.

  2. See your result

Right after the twentieth pick: your main love language, your second, and how all five stack up. No sign-up.

  3. Invite your person

One link, for one person. You won't have to answer again. Your result is already in.

  4. Compare

Once you've both answered, you see two profiles side by side: where you match, what matters more to each of you, and where to start.

The five love languages in short

A love language is the way a person naturally shows care and recognizes it in return. There are usually said to be five.

  • Words

“Thank you,” “I'm proud of you,” a midday text. Also called words of affirmation: this person needs to hear it out loud.

  • Time together

An evening with no phones, a talk with no rush, a shared project. Often called quality time: what you do matters less than doing it together.

  • Gifts

Not the price, the thought: a favorite treat, something small from a trip, a present chosen ahead of time.

  • Help

Care you can see, also known as acts of service: bringing tea, fixing what's broken, taking on part of the load in a hard week.

  • Touch

A hug hello, a hand in yours, shoulders touching on the couch. Physical touch is closeness you can feel.

What your result shows

Your main love language is the one you pick most often when you have to choose. Your second is usually close behind, and that's normal: most people care about several at once.

Each language comes with a short read: what makes you happy, what you might be missing, two ideas for you, and three for anyone who wants to do something nice for you. Your result stays in your browser for 30 days, and you can share it as a card.

Why compare as a couple

People tend to give care the way they'd like to get it. One of you brings tea and fixes the faucet, the other is waiting for words, and you're both trying and both missing.

Comparing shows that without any blame: here's what matters more to you, here's what matters more to your person, here are three easy steps toward each other. Your partner never sees your pick-by-pick answers. They see your final profile, and only after you've both taken the quiz.

Questions about the quiz

Is the love language quiz really free, with no sign-up?
Yes. No email, no account. You'll only need a name if you invite a second person, so they know who the invite is from.
How long does it take?
About four minutes. If you get interrupted, your progress is saved on this device and you can pick up where you left off.
What if both options matter to me equally?
Go with whichever you want more right now. Each language shows up eight times in different matchups, so one tough call won't change the picture.
Can my love language change?
Yes. After a move, a new baby, or a long stretch apart, something else often comes to the front. You can retake the quiz anytime.
What will my partner see?
Your five-language profile and how it compares with theirs, once they've answered too. They won't see which side you picked in any pair.
